Wilks is again (see Burnley game 24/9/1927) credited with a goal which may have been an own goal. Wilkes must have excelled in putting crosses in just under the bar; in this case Riley (the Liverpool goalkeeper) tried to catch the ball, but it fell behind him and rolled into the net despite efforts by McKinlay and Riley to keep it out and Halliday to force it. The players credited the goal to Wilks after the match.
